Overview and Features

The table is about as basic as it gets, which is another reason it’s perfect for younger kids. The simple design allows your child to easily learn the rules of the game, master hitting the puck, and try out some fun, simple tricks with the striker. This is obviously not a model designed for adults or the serious air hockey player, but it’s basic design allows younger children to improve fine motor skills, create strategies, and spend a fun afternoon indoors on rainy days.

The table comes with everything you need to get started, including a couple of strikers and two pucks. The strikers are designed for very small hands, so mom and dad may have a tough time grasping them correctly. Aside from the accessories, blower system, and table, you’ll also find a manual scorer, which you can use to teach your children how to keep track of a game.

Design

The table’s surface is plain, smooth, and the perfect size for kids two years and up. The table is made out of MDF wood material and plastic. It comes equipped with a small blower that doesn’t have to work hard to get the puck from one end of the table to the other. The MDF material improves this model’s stability, so it can easily withstand rough use from the kids, without cracking, chipping, or breaking. The manufacturer applied a thick coating that further enhances the table’s smooth surface, so the kids can easily shoot the puck across the table. There are small red lights located in the corners of the table, which are activated when a goal is made.

Assembly

If you’re dreading a lengthy, complicated assembly process, then you’ll be relieved to learn just how easy this table is to put together. Basically, this table is a breeze to assemble. It comes with a well-written user manual that clearly walks you through the assembly process. You can anticipate an assembly time of just twenty minutes.

Measurements

This model weighs just a little over seven and a half pounds and measures in at twenty-two inches long, twelve inches wide, and four inches tall. Obviously, at this size, space won’t really be an issue. The table’s size will allow you to easily store it in a spare closet or under a bed. It can also easily fit in most trunks so it’s a great choice if you’re looking for a travel-friendly table.

Blower System

Surprisingly, this table actually comes equipped with a fan, while other models designed for kids in this age group usually don’t, so this is definitely a big plus for the parent looking for a table that will offer a realistic air hockey gaming experience.

The compact blower system consists of a small fan that’s mounted directly on the bottom of the table. The blower system is operated with the use of six AA batteries. While the fan may look small, it offers more than enough blowing power to easily propel the puck across the table.

Scoreboard

Portzon table

Unfortunately, the table doesn’t come with an electronic scoreboard. Instead, it has a small, manual scorer that mom and dad can teach the kids how to use. In fact, parents can make a fun game of teaching the kids the basic air hockey rules and how each goal is scored.

Handle

As if the table wasn’t portable enough, this model comes equipped with a built-in handle that’s made out of ABS material, a type of thick, tough plastic that’s impressively durable. The handle allows you to easily move the table from room to room or transport it to its usual storage space.

Maintenance

Considering the compact size, this table is pretty easy to clean and maintain. However, it does require regular upkeep to prevent the holes in the table’s surface from becoming clogged with dirt and dust. To clean, you’ll simply wipe down the surface with a damp rag, to remove any surface dirt, then dry it with a microfiber cloth. If the holes become clogged, you’ll need to use toothpicks to poke through the holes to remove any stuck grime or dirt.

Use

One look at this table and you can tell right away that it’s designed for smaller children. The included strikers and pucks are very small, which can make the strikers difficult for older children, teens, and adults to grasp, however, the size is perfect for smaller hands. The table’s fan is small, but it offers just the right amount of power to allow the puck to smoothly fly across the surface of the table. This model is a great choice if you’re looking for a new, fun, and engaging activity for the kids. However, if you have older children, then you’ll want to take a pass on this model and instead search for one that’s designed for older kids and teens.

Portzon Versus Playcraft Sport 40-Inch Table Top Air Hockey

The competing table by Playcraft Sport is also compact and lightweight and features a sturdy design, thanks to the durable MDF hardwood frame. It also features a more powerful one hundred CFM air-powered motor. The table measures in at forty inches wide, eight inches high, and twenty-inches deep, so it’s larger than the Portzon, which makes it a better option for older children.

It also comes with a couple of pucks and strikers and offers a simple, fast assembly time. Both models are available at a comparable price and share many of the same features, however, the larger design and more durable frame make the competing table a better choice for older children and a table they won’t quickly outgrow. However, the Portzon is a great entry-level table that’s designed with smaller children in mind and provides them with a large playing surface that’s perfect for their size. The choice will ultimately depend on the age of your children and whether you’re looking for ultimate portability or a table that your child can use for a few years before needing an upgrade.

Conclusion and Rating

Our Rating: (4.5/5)

topIf your kids are interested in learning how to play air hockey, but they’re not quite ready for a large table, then a tabletop model is a great option and one that won’t cost you hundreds of dollars.

The Portzon electric air hockey table is designed with smaller children in mind. The small playing surface and accessories are perfect for kids ages two and up, however, kids eight and up will need a table that’s larger and comes equipped with strikers that are bigger and easier to grasp. The highly portable, lightweight design allows mom or dad to pack the table away at the end of the day. The built-in handle makes it much easier to store and transport the table. If you’re looking for a more affordable air hockey table for your small children, and want one that’s made out of durable materials designed to handle rough use, then this table is a great buy. I gave this table a rating of four and a half out of five stars.
