Buying an air hockey table for your living room does come with its own challenges. The table has to look the part, the motor needs to be relatively quiet, and the table should allow both kids and adults playing it. The Hathaway Midtown 6′ air hockey family game table seemingly checks all these boxes but is it worth its price tag? In this review, we will find out about that plus much more!

Our Verdict
Being a tad more expensive than other tables in its class, the Hathaway Midtown should bring a few extra features to the table (no pun intended). However, it seems to fall a bit short when it comes to that. Sure, it boasts a gorgeous traditional look but the blower motor and scoring LED display aren’t very different from what you’re used seeing in this class. Also, it does weigh less than other similarly-priced tables which isn’t necessarily an upside. If the looks is what you’re after and you still want a decent performance, this table is something you’d definitely enjoy!

Hathaway Midtown 6' Air Hockey

Our Rating: (4.5/5)

  • Cherry wood finish
  • Independent leg levelers
  • Chrome-finished corners
  • Nearly 2000 air holes
  • Scratch-resistant playfield
  • Powerful blower motor
  • Decent price

Design & Build Quality

The looks of the Hathaway Midtown are truly stunning if you’re into old-school designs. It features cherry finish surfaces all around it with aluminum corners and rails. The main material for the whole table is engineered wood which is sturdy enough to provide decent amounts of support. The table, however, isn’t the heaviest and can wobble a bit when you lean into it. There are some cool graphics on the playfield that break up the traditional design a bit, making it even more fitting for a in-house game room.

Set-Up Process

Setting this air hockey table up is quite easy. The main reason for that is its lightweight construction. Something that would require 2 people or even more requires just 1 person here. What’s not so great is the price they want you to pay for having the table professionally assembled, making the table more than 30% more expensive which isn’t worth your money.

Performance

To get its pucks up in the air, the table’s surface has nearly 2000 holes in it. Through them, you have one 110V motor blowing air continuously. The motor struggles a bit when played for far too long but overall does a decent job of keeping the playfield free of dead spots.

The playing surface is scratch-resistant, as well as poly-sealed and high-gloss. All that translates to easy sliding of the puck even when the air isn’t coming through the holes.

Scoreboard & Accessories

The score here is kept by a familiar automatic scoring system which has two LED displays in the middle of the table’s top frame. There are also controls for the volume and other functions as well as a separate, smaller LED screen for the time.

With the table, you get only one set of pucks and paddles with the strikers being 3.75″ and the 4 pucks 3 inches in diameter.

Dimensions

This air hockey table measures 72.5 inches in length, 36.5 inches in width, and is 30.5 inches high. This makes it perfect for younger kids, although adults will struggle playing on it for longer periods due to it sitting a bit too low. The playfield itself is 54 inches long and 30 inches wide. Weight-wise, the table is around 100 lbs when fully assembled, making it super easy to move around.

Price & Warranty

The price of this table is quite the controversial topic. On the one hand, it isn’t very expensive and it does offer quite a lot of features and performance for an entry-level air hockey table. On the other hand, however, you have tables that offer similar features and even better dimensions for less money. Granted, there are things that we aren’t taking into consideration but strictly speaking about the price – this table isn’t the best value for its money. It would be a killer deal if you get it discounted but at regular price, there are better options. Warranty-wise, you get the standard 1-year coverage you get on other similarly priced air hockey tables.

You can browse some of the brand’s other models too which all have their own sets of pros and cons when stacked against this particular model. The Face-off, Silverstreak, and Phantom are all in the same general price class and all offer different features.

Now, let’s sum up some of the most important advantages and disadvantages of the Hathaway Midtown.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Pros

  • Cherry wood finish
  • Independent leg levelers
  • Chrome-finished corners
  • Nearly 2000 air holes
  • Scratch-resistant playfield
  • Powerful blower motor
  • Decent price

Cons

  • Blower isn’t very powerful
  • Not too quiet
  • Professional assembly costs a ton of money
  • Not very sturdy in its place

Another table that sits in this price range and offers similar amounts of performance is the NHL Sting Ray Air Powered Hockey Table. It is slightly cheaper but has a more engaging design and is heavier, making it more sturdy when played by adults. Both tables are around the same size, so they often fall into the same cross-shopping bracket!

Conclusion and Rating

Our Rating: (4.5/5)

The Hathaway Midtown 6′ Air Hockey is an entry to mid-tier model that covers a lot of the basics of any air hockey table. It looks decent, has a steady performance with its blower motor and a slick playing surface that keeps the puck slide consistent and fast. The table is slightly geared towards kids since its smaller and lighter than other similarly-priced models. However, it can also be played by adults. There are some cool features like the easily adjustable leg levelers and automatic scoring system with LED displays. All that makes me give this table a solid score of four and a half out of five stars!
